Sandra Alland on Lunar Poetry Podcasts

WELCOME

San writes poetry, essays, criticism and literary fiction, with a focus on marginalised communities and experimental forms.

     Author of three poetry books, San co-edited the UK anthology, Stairs and Whispers: D/deaf & Disabled Poets Write Back. Her short stories have recently been commissioned for British Council's Discover Project, and the Comma Press anthologies, Thought X and Protest!. Recent essays appear in Feral Feminisms and HA&L.

     San directs documentaries and poetry films, and was commissioned by Disability Arts Online's Viewfinder project to co-create five documentaries and a curated playlist. In 2017, she and Ania Urbanowska co-made four short film-poems featuring disabled and D/deaf artists. Her short story peformance with film, Equivalence, also featured on-stage/-screen at Barbican, Edinburgh Filmhouse and Summerhall.

     San curates independent film, performance and visual arts; projects include Oska Bright/GSFF, BFI Flare, Edinburgh Filmhouse, The Theatre Centre (Toronto), and Scotland's accessible queer and trans arts project, Cachín Cachán Cachunga!

1. Short Story: 'Personal Assistant' is available online in The Deaf Poets Society, Issue 8. Read or listen.

 

2. Short Story: 'Water,logged' appears in print in Glasgow's Gutter #19, out now!


3. Essays: Read or listen to a four-part commissioned series on criticism of marginalised artists, at Disability Arts Online. Part 3 includes advice in BSL from deaf writer/performer, Bea Webster (captions; voice-over).

 

4. Essay: 'A Man, A Cane, An Awkward Title' appears in print in The Bi-ble: New Testaments (Monstruous Regiment, Edinburgh, June 2019).

5. Short Story: 'Half' appears in print in The Mirror in the Mirror (Comma Press, Manchester, August 2019).
